Harriet’s Place Gallery, UArts’ Student Center

401 S. Broad St Philadelphia, PA 19107

Join us for an opening reception on Friday, Feb.  2, from 4–6 p.m., to celebrate the work of iLAB Artist-in-Residence Yikui (Coy) Gu at Harriet’s Place Gallery at the UArts’ Student Center.

The exhibition Nothing Personal centers on Gu’s Chinese immigrant experience as an entry point for exploring contemporary U.S. society. His work alludes to pop culture, politics, food, internet memes, art history, consumerism, and Asian American identity—usually with a biting sense of humor. Gu combines painting, drawing, and collage with materials ranging from chopsticks to bodily fluids that engage with the full spectrum of image-making and the plurality of the modern world. Through this combination of political, cultural, and domestic imagery, Gu aspires to affirm and subvert the contemporary human condition through a Yellow lens.
